How to resize a VMware Replicated Disk with vCloud Air
Overview:
The purpose of the document is to illustrate the process of
resizing a replicated disk.
Reference:
Requirements
[Hardware/Software]:
·
Access
to vCloud Air
·
Access
to VMware vSphere Web Client
Procedure:
To resolve this issue, force stop the replication and modify the
virtual machine disk size:
1.
Log in to vCloud Air.
2.
Go to vCloud Air Dashboard > DRaaS
VDC > Virtual Machines tab.
3.
Select the Virtual Machine and click Recovery to recover the virtual machine.
4.
Click the Replication tab.
5.
Select the Remove Replication from the dropdown and click Continue to remove the replication.
6.
Click the Virtual Machines tab and power off the recovered virtual
machine by clicking the green power button next to the virtual machine name.
7.
In the vCloud
Director, go to Related Links > Manage Catalogs.
8.
Go to My Cloud > VMs.
9.
Right-click the VM and click Properties.
10.
Click Hardware and modify the virtual machine disk size (vCloud
Air Virtual Machine).
11.
Log in to the vSphere
Web Client.
12.
Go to Home > VMs and Templates.
13.
Right-click Right click the VM.
14.
Click All vSphere Replication
Actions > Stop.
15.
Select Force stop replication.
Note: If you don’t select Force stop replication, you will lose the
replication seed and trust me, you can’t get VMware to get it for you. I had a
VMware Tech on the line within 10 min and they told me it wasn’t possible!
16.
Click OK.
17.
Right-click VM and click Edit Settings to modify the virtual machine disk size (Local
Virtual Machines).
18.
Configure the
replication for the modified virtual machine to use the existing virtual
machine in vCloud Air as a seed:
19.
Right-click the VM.
20.
Go to All vSphere Replication Actions
> Configure Replication > Replicate to a cloud provider > Select
the appropriate target site > User replication seeds > Select the
appropriate seed VM > Complete the wizard with required settings to configure the replication for the modified
virtual machine to use the existing virtual machine in vCloud Air as a seed.
Note: When setting the new size values for the virtual machine in your environment and the vCloud Air Disaster Recovery environment, ensure be sure to use whole values and do not include decimal values in the size.
For example, use 36 GB instead of 35.5 GB.
